Events - DFWAUG - Dallas-Ft. Worth Adobe Users Group Scripting Illustrator! - May 10

photoDFWAUG - Dallas/Ft. Worth Adobe Users Group

Join us as Vasily Hall takes us on a scripting adventure with Adobe Illustrator!
Adobe has had script support for its applications for quite a few versions, and those features are usually utilized by someone other than the creative artist.
However, because of how Illustrator works visually, learning to script it may be actually easier than one would imagine. In fact, it can be a great way for an artist to learn the concept of programming while using code to make a workflow more efficient. This demonstration lesson is perfect for someone who has no programming background but would like to learn to extend his or her Illustrator functionality.
Vasily plans on covering the following:

  • why script?
  • the three scripting languages for Adobe products.
  • the limitations of scripting (Before we set for the Moon let's see all the wonderful stuff ExtendScript can't even do)
  • a brief overview of Actions and comparing them vs scripting
  • a very brief overview of Javascript history
  • demonstration of a sample problem and a complete script to solve it.
  • using ExtendScript ToolKit
  • using documentation reference
  • writing our script!

Vasily Hall has been in America since 1995 and an Illustrator user since 2007. His vector illustration work focus is on silkscreen artwork for apparel as well as print items. While his artwork encompasses a variety of techniques and subject matter from character and concept art to technical or abstract works, he always advocates the core principles of organization and "intelligent art" in vector design.
